HIV Elders Study: Mindfulness Practice for Older Individuals Living with HIV

This study is a collaboration between the UCSF Memory and Aging Center and the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine to examine mindfulness practice for older individuals living with HIV. Aging with HIV presents challenges, which can include increased difficulty with completing everyday tasks and changes in thinking and memory. At present, there are no effective treatment strategies for the management of these cognitive and functional symptoms.

This randomized controlled trial aims to better understand these changes and to study the possible beneficial effects of a mindfulness-based stress reduction course on attention, stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Data is gathered through neurological examination, neuropsychological testing, geriatric syndrome assessment, functional testing and multimodal brain imaging.
