James Mitchell, PhD began practicing and studying mindfulness meditation and hatha yoga in 1995. After completing a masters degree in Existential-Phenomenological and Clinical Psychology to combine interests in cross-cultural perspectives in philosophy and psychology, he earned a doctoral degree in East/West Psychology in 2003 focusing on the psychological connection between western science and eastern philosophy. He trained in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Drs. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Robert Stahl.
James also teaches and researches psychology, philosophy, and mindfulness-based interventions in Bay Area universities and addiction treatment centers. In addition, he leads the Mindfulness Alumni Programs at the Osher Center.
